Chapter 9 – God’s Perfect Will For Your Life

Summary

The question of what does God want me to do will inevitably come up in your walk with Him. If you are misguided in this area it can lead to much confusion and frustration. The perfect will of God has nothing to do with what you end up doing or not doing. The perfect will of God is simply that the quality of life that He has would manifest in your life. Don’t try to do everything right, we can’t do everything right and that’s not what God has called us to do. God’s plan is that we would be born of Him and that His life would be in us.

Chapter 9 – God’s Perfect Will For Your Life

Now that we’ve touched a little bit on God’s way of doing things and His thoughts about you, I want to talk about His will for your life. The question of what God wants me to do will inevitably come up in your walk with Him. As I mentioned a few chapters ago, this may not be the best question but it is an important thing to know. If you are misguided in this area it can lead to much confusion and frustration. I know from personal experience.

Let’s start with a popular scripture in Romans 12:2:

2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

We see here that if we let God transform the way we think, then we will learn His will for us which is good and pleasing and perfect. We also see there is a process here, but what many people don’t realize is what the goal actually is. They automatically assume that God’s will for them is about what He wants them to do for them.

The perfect will of God has nothing to do with what you end up doing or not doing. The perfect will of God is simply that the quality of life that He has would manifest in your life. You will never have the ministry or life God wants you to have if you are not free. We think it’s good that we want to do everything right but that is self-centeredness. We can never be free as long as we are centered on ourselves. God has only called us to believe in Him. That is all He has called us to do.

God does not want us condemned to a life of trying to do right and not doing wrong through our willpower. God’s plan is not that we would see what is right and try to do good through our own ability. Don’t try to do everything right, we can’t do everything right and that’s not what God has called us to do. God’s plan is that we would be born of Him and that His life would be in us.

If you define yourself by anything you do or don’t do that is the wisdom of the world. God has defined you by a risen Christ seated at the right hand of God. That is his definition of everybody. The thing that has kept us from seeing His life manifest in our life is we don’t recognize His definition of us. We define ourselves by the world’s system. Hence the need to let God transform our thinking.

The way I think many Christians look at God’s will for them is it’s like they’ve been dealt a great hand in poker. But instead of just seeing that as God’s good pleasure to give them a good hand to do with what they please, they feel this enormous pressure to play the hand exactly right. You’ll either get stuck in a cycle of bondage or keep God at a distance if you feel that is His will for you.

Jesus came so that we can have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). We usually restrict what that means. It doesn’t just mean that we would end up in heaven one day. .He’s talking about God’s perfect will for you while you are here on earth. His perfect will is that His quality of life would be born in you through relationship with Him.

You should want to experience God’s quality of life right now on this earth. Why? Because that is His perfect will for you. All you have to do is believe that is His will for you and stop implementing the wisdom of the world in your life. Stop defining yourself by what you have and what you do. You’ll find yourself in the perfect of will of God effortlessly by doing this. He loves you just the way you are.
